THE DARWIN SHOW
Every year, in mid to late July, this mister man takes himself and family off to the Darwin show. And every year he leaves home knowing that the three or four hours wasted there will never again be lived.
The truly awful spectacle reinforces how small town and small of mind Darwin is. From this shallow gene pool the health department's future leaders are to be selected, trained and foisted upon an unsuspecting and long suffering general public.
A few weeks ago, Notaras bragged in his weekly Friday sermon about numbers of future leaders have been brought on board. Such idiocy and petty mindedness is becoming commonplace from the Great Leader. In the same sermon he boasted of the numbers of staff who have the done appropriate workplace behaviours course. By our calculations, it will take a mere 16 years for all health department staff to have received this training, assuming the current 29% annual staff attrition rate drops to 0% immediately.
The training in our view is barely worth bothering with. The inappropriate behaviours that have set so many on edge come from the leaders themselves. It isn't the staff. It's the managers, who are failing to follow policies and procedures, underpinned by a useless and weak HR department who let them do it and cover up for them afterwards.
So who better in the Great Leader's mind to train the 'future leaders'? - that's right: the swine who are causing most of the problems in the first place. A genius it does not take to work how that will play out.
Mind you, when you have Kalimnios, Burke and the criminal family down the road Alice Springs way as your trusted senior lieutenants advising you, we can see how the latest 'Next Big Idea' will soon end up trammelled into the sand.
Back to The Darwin Show. What la famile mister men enjoyed most, apart from reassuringly seeing a friendless Adam Giles wandering around on his own, nobody speaking or smiling in his direction, were the sand sculpts.
They reminded us that from a single grain of truth the management of the northern territory department of health can, do, and have manufactured whole sand banks of lies and false allegations to hang upon their targets.
Walking around the show in a perpetual 'why the heck do I live I the arse hole of Australia?' existential crisis created from my own doing stupidity I noticed several former colleagues wandering around wearingthe haunted look of the psychologically falsely imprisoned.
First I bumped into Michelle. She was a manager who went on leave and while she was away her senior manager bragged to others about how she was about to shaft her with false allegations and push her out of her job.
How Casuarina Plaza rocked and swayed laughing in unison at that one.
The senior manager arranged for a complaint to be sent to the health minister purportedly from elders in an aboriginal community complaining about Michelle's supposed disrespectful conduct at a meeting. The letter went on to say that Michelle's safety could no longer be guaranteed in that community. Except the letter was manufactured deceit from the CEO of an aboriginal corporation in cahoots with Michelle's senior manager.
It didn't matter that two witnesses, a police officer and a school principal had both praised Michelle for the skilled way in which she had conducted herself at the meeting in question. Michelle’s senior manager didn't care about any of that. There was to be no fair investigation and certainly with no natural justice afforded to her. She was to be shoved out of her job, transferred into another and a pre arranged replacement slotted in.
Michelle hung around for a couple of months doing her new job. But her heart wasn't in it and she remainedvery upset. Then she took time off and resigned. Michelle is no longer registered as a nurse and changed her career.
Her senior manager was so impressed at the way her little scheme had played out that she pulled it off again in almost exactly the same way to someone else in another community not too long after. That person was so distressed by the dirty trick that she too is no longer working as a nurse.
Next I bumped into Fiona, a former colleague who had lost her position on the back of unsubstantiated gossip. One day that same senior manager turned up with an area service manager and frog marched her out of her workplace. She was forced to work in Casuarina Plaza whilst her fixed term contract was run down. In her last week she was offered a job – as an administrative assistant effectively on half the pay of a nurse and with no concern for her career development. The rumours circulated about her were uncorroborated and false. She was denied natural justice. The appeal to the biased OCPE went no where as they always do.
Because Fiona was so stressed and unhappy, she sent her children inter state to be looked after by a family member. For a period, Fiona became so depressed that her mother called the health department because she had concerns her daughter would suicide. The health department took no supportive action whatsoever. Just before she left, Fiona wrote a letter describing her angst and worry caused by being innocent and the denial of natural justice. She never even received a response.
These are but examples of what the senior manager does to people. On the flip side, she is generous to her favourites; men mainly. For example;
The appointment of a male non clinician into a non advertised senior role who had never worked for the health department before. Several concerns about his bullying have been shared.
The appointment of a male into a non advertised senior role in the community she currently manages.
The appointment of a male into a challenging clinic as manager with no checking of references and in circumstances where he had assaulted a nurse in a previous organisation where security had to be rushed out to collect him immediately and summarily send him on his way.
The protection of a particularly nasty vicious male manager who has verbally abused female staff.
Allowing a useless manager a five year career break secondment and then havinghim back less than three months later when the workers of the organisation he went to work for complained about his bullying behaviour.
Ignoring concerns raised about an alcoholic clinic manager working in a dry community because he was a favoured member of her coterie.
On and on it goes.
Perhaps the most telling comments go to one of her victims who had her round for dinner one evening. The senior manager boasted about how manipulative she was. She said she played with people and never stuck her neck out to help anyone having problems. She was apparently laughing as she explained her tactics to the shocked future victim and her husband. Later, the husband asked that she never be allowed in his home again. He said, 'That person is pure evil.'
Having left behind a litany of damage to the careers of the innocent and having caused even more damage by making decisions based upon cronyism, has she ever faced sanction for her actions? Of course she hasn't. And she is still there wreaking havoc and causing misery across the top end hated and feared by the clinical staff.
And here is another;
'When XXX came out and falsely accused me of things I never did, she denied me any right to defend myself, refused to give me any evidence, lied about who had made the allegations and then yawned in my face and looked continually at her watch. To her it was just another day. To me it was the destruction of my career. And she was actually bored of my distress. She is a disgusting cruel person with no integrity and no concern for the upset she causes.'
And there are many more examples.
At this point it was time for the pig race and because I felt like vomiting, I decided to go home.
This is the kind of person protected by the organisation's shitty HR department whilst clinicians have been destroyed by her.

No Degree but after interviewing each other have $100,000+ positions. Know any IT Managers without a IT Degree? Yes they interviewed each other and the Senior Managers defended the decision til the hilt!! OCPE took 15 seconds to cancel the first interview! They are famous now as they are referred to indirectly in how NOT TO CONDUCT A Interview in OCPE's recruitment training book and are mentioned in the face to face training programs.

I refer to your post about the 2 Twin brothers at Health House interviewing one another for $100,000+ jobs! This is normal pattern at NTPS! Managers with no or embarrassing qualifications but have connections( I suggest as: Political Connections, Donations to Political parties or maybe their mum ran against Paul Henderson for the CLP as limited, randomly selected examples) then go and hire staff that have the skills and qualifications to do all the work. This is why government is bloated! One of the twins mentioned has advertised for a A06 with a long list of skills. Skills they will never attain as the only qualification they had when given the $100k role was a CERTIFICATE 3 in book keeping! Not even a Cert IV. Not bad to get given a $100k+ IT jobs with a dumb arse Cert 3 qualification.

Why dont Public Servants have to sign Declaration of Interests when applying for jobs or chairing interview panels?

DeleteHow many have you heard of this NTPS HR trick? They get their mates to apply through the ENTRY LEVEL program, which means no advertising or interview. They then magically select their mate and place them on Higher Duties on the first day-so they start so their mate starts off at A03 pay level. Thats a $62,027 package, no interview, no MERIT principle, no chance of a Grevience, thank you very much!! Bet theirs no stats collected on that at OCPE. Its no better down here in Victoria!!!
This is what the NT Government has become! When CLP are in they repay the CLP faithfull. When the ALP are in they repay their supporters with jobs.Meanwhile people are thinking (and deluded) they have a real chance of getting a government job. I encourage everyone to lodge a grievance against any hiring decision that even looks a bit fishy. Wait till they hand over the winning applicants resume to you. You will find you lost out to someone's kid, some Donators kid or some tossers who suck up to some Political Ego or ilk like that! OCPE will not defend you! Its up to you to defend yourself. I think its worthwhile to start donating to the political parties. Its how Darwin works.Their is no MERIT principle . RAN

When Medical staff go on strike, its the end of the friggin world. Their has to be some collective pushback, I am sick of reading your stories, despite having a very similar story myself. Its time to stop posting stories and pool resources like money and evidence. The scum of the earth Management your discussing hate it when Lawyers call them. I find myself very upset reading this blog. I worked in remote health for many years until I got shoved out of my post a few years ago. As the noose tightened I couldn't get answers from anyone. I could how much the department had changed, though. somewhere down the line the management lost their soul and somehow some proper bastards were allowed to take over. They have ruined it and the only way to get it back to the level it was at is to remove the senior managers there now. From my own personal experience I know that they are terrible bullying sorts. I just hope that someone realizes that its the management and not the staff. Don't shoot the messengers!

DeleteI am really stuggling with Bullying at work. I have got to the point that after a week off I come in and within just 3 hours am back to the NT I felt like before. This is not my normal charachter, I am always happy and joking around the clinic, but everyone is able to notice how withdrawn I have become and the unusual quietness of me.I just cannot stand this pressure, the constant remarks about being sacked, and the day to day not being spoken to.

I did not see the Director employ their bimbo daughter over a qualified Nurse. I did not see Directors bully the Accountant twice daily to fudge some numbers! I did not see the revolving door of staff despite attending the Going Away parties held weekly! I didnt see staff labelled with mental health disorders, I did not see excellent Nurses reported to APHRA out of malice, I just didn't see the bullying that has 2 major blogs dedicated to it and the most popular NT News news articles based on the bullying! Somehow, Your Honour, i am at the coal face and I didnt see anything.

Unfortunately Education in the NT is exactly the same. Faceless HR consultants colluding with SFNT lawyers all from the same floor in a government building, they never see your face and don't give a fuck what happens to you as they will never have to explain themselves to you or your family. It's the anonymity and unaccountability built into the system that needs changing for a start. I bet if everyone picketed Craig Allen's office every day with a full media presence he would start changing things quickly.

I am pleased to advise the appointment of Ms Carol Farmer to the position of General Manager Primary Health Care Central Australia Health Service.
Carol will be taking up her role on Tuesday 4 August 2015 and is really excited and looking forward to meeting and working with the team in Central Australia.
Carol brings to the service extensive executive health service management experience, having been the General Manager Bankstown Hospital for the South Western Sydney Local Health District and Director of Nursing and Midwifery at both Bankstown and Fairfield Hospitals. Carol is also an accredited ACHS Surveyor since 2009 and an International ACHS Surveyor since 2014.
The qualifications possessed by Carol are also impressive, with an Executive Masters of Public Administration, Masters of Health Services Management, Graduate Diploma of Health Service Management and a Bachelor of Health Sciences Nursing.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Brycen Brook who has so ably undertaken the General Manager role since February 2015. Under Brycen’s leadership, there have been a number of important achievements, not the least being, improving recruitment to the key positions, ensuring the PHC budget was/is aligned to enable the delivery of services where needed, progressing the structural reforms for the service and improving quality and safety to mention but a few of the issues that he has had to deal with. I am pleased therefore to be able to advise that Brycen will continue to provide a leadership role in Primary Health Care as he will be taking on a new role as Deputy General Manager to further enhance our Primary Health Care Services. This and the creation of a third District are important elements in positioning our service to undertake Accreditation under the ACHS National Standards.
I am sure that with the strong team we now have in Primary Health Care we will also be able to focus on another priority for Central Australia Health Service in 2015/16 which is Service Integration.

I met BB! And his Daughter! And his Nephew at Central Australia Remote Health! Time permitting I would have met the rest of his family! But not to be outdone, I have met Health CIO's exwife and her 2 daughters (slotted into very well paying roles over experienced staff, thank you), and his current wife (top dog at everyones favorite Remote Health) (and her former husband). It makes the Health Department's Organisational Chart one hell of a tangled web and really looks like a Family Tree. I would hate to have to fill in a Declaration of Interest form at Health. These Health people are not into nepotism (despite the evidence), they just have a hard time keeping their pants on.

ReplyDeleteAre you a NT Public Servant and being reprimanded by HR for inappropriate comments on social media or making inappropriate comments about staff?? Feel free to mention the unpunished precedent set by Phillip Brennan. That he is a Senior Manager on twice or triple the money your on, and was not touched. Because your being punished, you feel victimized and targeted. Protection for some members of staff are condoned but not for you could be seen as favouritism!. Ask for some time to respond to the allegations after conferring with Fairwork Australia, any union other than the CPSU, a lawyer such as Ron Hope, or any IR Consultants. IR Consultants and any Lawyer with IR experience has a long long line of Health Dept staff coming out of their front door. Its a growth industry! Feel free to mention that victimizing staff was the spark that started 2 major blogs which name Managers Names for eternity! Those Names show up on Google searches conducted by HR staff when doing background checks.
ReplyDeleteWe will add that any bona fide employee who is having legal actions against the health department and has a lawyer can email us. We do not always name names in our stories, but we have the evidence to back up our claims, including names.
